Yakushima is an island of about 500 km2 at the south of Kyushu in Kagoshima
Prefecture, Japan. It is covered in dense forest noted especially for old
growth Cryptomeria trees known as Yakusugi (Japanese cedar of Yaku in Japan) and
magnificent Rhododendrons.
Yakushima's unique remnant of a warm-temperate
ancient forest is a natural World Heritage Site of
UNESCO since 1993.

What's Yakusugi?
Yakusugi is Japanese cedar of Yaku that has 500 meter high and over one thousand
years old. General Cryptomeria has 500 years life, but Yakusugi can live over
1000 years old.
Yakusugi holds many rosin (than average 6 times other
trees). That's why Yakusugi is hardly decay.
Yakushima has beautiful forest. Trees which are living over 1000 years. So, ancient people said, The sacred something is living here
Yakusugi is called "the SACRED TREE".
They believed that the something is dwelling.
When Yakusugi sprouted;
U.S.A. is not established,
Byzantine Empire was the golden age,
expedition of Crusades began,
China was ruled by Song Dynasty
and Samurai are not appeared in history
of Japan.

The whole of Yaku isle. was registered as natural World Heritage site by
UNESCO in 1993. And also the law of ban for cutting Yakusugi was enacted
by Japanese government in 1970.
Why can we sell items made of
Yakusugi?
Cutting a living Yakusugi is prohibited. But using
buried or collapsed Yakusugi by typhoon is allowed. And we use timber which cut
in Edo era (1603 - 1868).
That's why only the limited
stores can sell them.

Expected completion time will be between 2-4 weeks (in case of having lots of orders or by depending on craftsman's circumstances and physical condition, maybe it takes more.), depending on the specification.
