The founder was a furniture craftsman who belonged to Date clan in Edo period. In 1872 (after modernization), the 1st and 2nd master established furniture studio at Sendai.
In 3rd master years, he made studio change to corporate organization. He made his works known at many competitive prize show. As a result, he was awarded a decoration as the first Sendai citizen.
In 4th and 5th master years, Japanese life style have changed to western-like. At that time, many Japanese traditional industry were declined. Then the 5th master made decision that he protect tradition. Now It's the only studio that is producing Sendai Tansu with traditional process (Authentic all handmade furniture by craftsmen).
And their studio was authorized as tangible cultural properties from the Agency for Cultural Affairs in mid of 1990's.
The 5th master had an eye on an advancement of cultural value. And that succeeded.

On Mar. 11th 2011, suddenly devastating earthquake and tsunami attacked their area.
Nowadays the 6th master who survived from disaster is recovering their studio and works. And he is planning to make a new product. He is selling them to all area of Japan as well as Sendai.
