Japanese representative porcelain have been loved from the world.
Arita and Imari are almost the same thing. Speaking of Imari, it's Arita generally in Japan (the best place). Imari is the name of port. That's why, this porcelain was called from name of port in outside of Japan. I mean, Arita was exported from Imari port since the latter of Edo period.
 
The history of Arita (Imari)
In 16th century, Japan was ruled by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Daimyo (the leaders of Samurai) brought many craftsman from Korean peninsula at that time.
Arita (Imari) started to produce in 17th century. Japan had adopted a national isolation policy except Netherlands and China for 260 years.
Around 1640, Chinese painters visited to Japan, And they gave a revolutionary change to Arita. After that, from the latter of Edo to early Maiji era, Imari (Arita) was exported to Europe mainly.
That's Arita (Imari) which are having beautiful and sophisticated design!!
Arita (Imari) is representative porcelain, called "HAKUJI (white based porcelain)"
Speaking Imari (Arita), it's one of high-class porcelain in the world.
Nowadays, Imari (Arita) is loved as the fine arts!!

This Arita (Imari) was produced by Yazayemon the 7th.
Yazayemon is inherited name since Edo period (1803 - present). Yazayemon have more than 200 years history.

Yazayemon the 1st
The founder of Yazayemon's kiln. He got a permit from the lord of Nabeshima,
and he opened his kiln. The history of Yazayemon was begun.


Yazayemon the 2nd
He was born in the latter of Edo period (19th century). At that time, Japan had depression
and famine. So he led his life in needy circumstances. After that he crawled up somehow and he died at age of 36.


Yazayemon the 3rd
He was natural poor. So he had changed a job temporarily.
However he got a success at the job, and he returned to the world of Arita (Imari).
He was the restorer of Arita.


Yazayemon the 4th
He took over from Yazayemon the 3rd who made Arita become big industry.
He invited super porcelain painter, Takasu Matashirou. The 4th designed trademark.
I mean, he established the brand of
"Gold Imari". He started to export to worldwide.
 

Yazayemon the 5th
When he took over from Yazayemon the 4th, Japan was in the midst of WWII.
He made a wealth by block economy, but after WWII, he export "Gold Imari" to North America and Europe.
And he didn't make only high-class porcelain but also many tablewares. He made efforts to restore kiln as traditional Arita.
His contribution was recognized, and he had received cultural decoration from Japanese Imperial House and Japanese government.
 

Yazayemon the 6th
Japan adopted the floating exchange rate system. Therefore export business became hard. He determined to change business from export to domestic dealing.
 

Yazayemon the 7th
Active Arita (Imari) kiln master.
He is suggesting modern design of Arita (Imari), and he tries to export to worldwide.
