SENSU (Japanese hand-held fan) is made of paper on a bamboo frame, usually with a design painted on them. The fan is primarily used for fanning oneself in hot weather. The fan symbolizes friendship, respect and good wishes. It is a gift that is given to people on special occasions, and it is also an important stage prop for the Japanese dance performances.

Traditional perfume is soaked into this fan. So when you fan, it gives beautiful scent.

This design is HannyaShingyo. It's the most popular Buddhism sutra.
This sutra is expressing essence of Buddhism with around 300 letters. It is near philosophy, it is not spell.
The main theme is (Shiki-Soku-Ze-Kuu, Kuu-Soku-Ze-Shiki).

Heart Sutra says:
"You don't have 'yourself'. Actual existences are composed of a series of perceptions for example body, sense, imagination, association and thinking. All factors aren't yours, and also doesn't belong to you. But 'yourself' does not exist without these factors. That's why you aren't here eventually. In addition, these factors are also an illusion, unsubstantial one. By this wisdom, we can get out all sufferings and misfortunes."

Of course it's also OK thinking as only accessories.
