This is a Buddhist Sculpture, DAIICHI NYORAI using YAKUSUGI.
Yakusugi is Japanese cedar of Yaku that has 500 meter high and over one thousand years old. And the tree has many rosin than any other trees. That's why Yakusugi is hardly decay timber.

Yakusugi is limited resources.

Cutting a living Yakusugi is prohibited. Because of The law of ban for cutting Yakusugi was enacted by Japanese government in 1970. But using buried or collapsed Yakusugi by typhoon is allowed. And The whole of Yaku isle. was registered as natural World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1993.

He is characteristic sculpture for Northern route Buddhism. Nowadays, he is believed by people in mainly Japan and Tibet. MUDRA (Buddha's hand gesture) is CHI-KEN-IN which means "removing a darkness" and "giving us strong will like a diamond".

In Edo period, people couldn't use it without permission. If they used it, they were punished severely. Because this mark was symbol of SHOGUN.
